Controlled Driving Environment

IF YOU HAVE HAD YOUR PERMIT FOR AT LEAST 5 MONTHS AND HAVE COMPLETED AND PASSED YOUR DRIVING LESSONS WITH AN INSTRUCTOR, PLEASE CONTACT THE LOCATION YOU ATTENDED TO SCHEDULE CDE .

THE NEXT CONTROLLED DRIVING ENVIRONMENT WILL BE HELD:
Saturday June 26, 2010.
If you attended classes June 2009 - January 2010, it is time for you to complete your driving requirements with us at CDE.
REMEMBER: YOU MUST HAVE A (B+) OR BETTER ON YOUR DRIVING WITH AN INSTRUCTOR AND HAVE COMPLETED AT LEAST THE FIRST FOUR HOURS OF CITY STREET DRIVING IN ORDER TO ATTEND CONTROLLED DRIVING.
If you have not passed your city street-driving phase, please contact the office to schedule more driving time.
It is not necessary to have all of your 50 hours of supervised driving logged prior to completing the Controlled Driving Environment.

The "CDE" develops self-confidence and allows the student to practice basic driving skills, i.e., k-turns, parking and a tremendous amount of backing. This is a closed course environment where the student is in radio contact with the instructor and for many, this is the first time they've driven alone. This is a beginner driver education class, thus; when executing maneuvers as a group at the CDE, we have some students who have a lot of experience and some students who do not. In this case, we gear the lessons towards the less experienced students.

CDE is located at the Honeywell, Corp. southeast parking lot.

Traveling on I-25, take the "Alameda" exit #233
Turn "West" onto "Alameda" until you reach "Jefferson"
Turn "North" onto "Jefferson"
Drive approximately 1/2 mile until you reach the "Honeywell Main Gate" on the right.
After entering the main gate, make an immediate right. Follow the road around to the South end of the parking lot. You will see the drop off area to your left at the 3-way stop and also the McGinnis cars in the South parking lot.
Students may disembark at the blocked off area.
Please DO NOT walk out onto the parking lot. The instructor will come to get you when he is ready for you to begin.

The Controlled Driving Environment is held once a month every month except October. CDE is always on a Saturday and occasionally Sunday when necessary. We start early in the morning and have several sessions throughout the day as late as 3:00 or 4:00pm. Your student should call the first week of the 5th or 6th month of their permit to see when the next controlled driving will be scheduled. Students must have a grade of at least a B+ or better on their city street driving before they will be allowed to sign up for controlled driving. No one will be allowed to take CDE before the 5th month of his or her permit.
